Success can be hard to define. Although people define it in different ways, the Education Foundation and the Albert Lea Area Schools define it as the activities of individuals who have had a positive impact on their community or the world. Our goal is to recognize those individuals who have graduated from Albert Lea High School and excelled in their careers. We hope this recognition will give encouragement to students by recognizing and honoring individuals who are alumni and who can serve as role models for them. Each year four individuals will be honored for their success in (1) business and economic endeavors and (2) humanitarian and public service.
A committee from the Education Foundation of Albert Lea solicits nominations for individuals who meet the qualifications for recognition. The committee then chooses recipients to be named Distinguished Alumni who will be honored at our fall dinner.
Recipients will be invited to appear at Albert Lea High School the following day to share their experiences with students. The goal is to inspire students to make good use of the educational opportunities available to them during their high school years.
Each recipient will have a plaque placed on a wall in the high school and also receive a memento of the occasion. In addition, they will receive an invitation to attend future events honoring other distinguished alumni.
We hope that the examples set by distinguished alumni will inspire current students that the pathway to success begins with their education. We also want the community to recognize the positive outcomes achieved by students who have attended Albert Lea Area Schools, to develop a sense of pride in what the schools have done to help students attain success, and to support educational opportunities for our children.
